Get More From Your Mill

Wednesday, May 10th, 2023

The Brunette Machinery BioSizer® helps you get more from your mill. Featuring a rugged, heavy-duty design, this secondary grinder produces a fine, consistent product ideal for the biomass industry.

Find us on page 7 of the April 2023 issue of Wood Bioenergy magazine.

As the global biomass power market continues to grow, more mill owners are expanding their operations to fill the demand. The Brunette BioSizer helps owners across North America take control of their fiber supply.

Our BioSizer produces a fine, consistent product ideal for the biomass industry. This solid secondary grinder efficiently converts various material such as trim blocks, bark, wood chips, and typical urban wood waste into uniform-sized fibers suitable for high quality biomass fuel.

User-friendly and ergonomic, this grinder has a high inertia rotor and fixed, steel hammers. Four rows of staggered hammers provide maximum bites per revolution and feature two-sided tungsten carbide coated striker bars for longevity. B-Loks mount the rotor onto an oversized shaft supported by spherical bearings and installed in a spigot mounted steel bearing housing.

Our BioSizer’s robust main frame is line-bored for accuracy and alignment for maximum bearing life. Shear pins protect the swing-away anvil and grate from damage from large pieces of metal or rock. Internal, replaceable, bolt-on wear liners provide additional protection.

The 3-piece grate has interchangeable sections together with a progressive rectangular hole pattern. Grates are available with optional hole patterns that can be easily changed out to provide maximum customization for various product sizes.

The performance-engineered design features a large rear-access door that allows for easy maintenance as well as safe striker bar change out.

Increase Your Lumber Recovery

Tuesday, March 21st, 2023

Find out how you can increase your lumber recovery. Take a look at our latest ad — featuring Brunette Flare Butt Reducers — on page 64 of the Softwood Forest Products Buyer March/April 2023 issue

The Brunette Flare Butt Reducer is designed to convert troublesome logs into valuable timber. Its robust construction reduces maintenance and improves uptime for continual return on investment.

Installing a Brunette Flare Butt Reducer at the start of the production line, affords many advantages throughout the entire mill. including: improved log handling and sorting, better alignment and log control during scanning.

As well, more accurate curve sawing occurs without influence from the butt flare and, negative effects from conveyor chain transitions during the sawing are minimized.

Like our standard model, the Brunette Dual Head Flare Butt Reducer turns troublesome logs into profitable ones. It is specifically designed for larger product capacity and does not require log pre-sorting.

Both Brunette’s Flare Butt Reducer models have the same unique design and cutting geometry that turns rogue logs into valuable lumber, while the robust construction reduces maintenance and improves uptime for continual return on investment.

The Three Chippers

Monday, February 6th, 2023

Have you read the January/February 2023 issue of Logging & Sawmilling Journal?
Pro Tip: Our latest ad is on page 9.

Brunette Machinery Ad on page 9 in Logging and Sawmilling Journal - Jan/Feb issue. Image shows three chippers from BMC

Brunette Machinery offers a full line of Drum Chippers available in various sizes and model configurations. Our Chippers have rigid structural frames and powerful high-inertia rotors built for optimal performance. This means lower maintenance costs, and the best quality chips at the highest capacities.

Our Chippers are renowned for producing quality pulp chips from short material that is difficult to control. Some models can produce “micro-chips” at up to 50 units per hour — giving you access to more markets – and more flexibility.

Brunette Chippers are designed with a wide throat to accommodate large pieces such as logs, lily pads, cores, and spinouts. The single piece tapered knives process material across the full width of the drum provides even wear and longer life.

Features like adjustable chip length and the Brunette Quick-Change knife system make Brunette Chippers ideal for your application.

Thank You, TP&EE! We Had a Blast!

We had a blast! Image shows a collage of photos take at the TP&EE show in Portland, Oregon

It was a great show and we had a blast! This year’s Timber Processing & Energy Expo return to the Portland Exposition Center was a welcome event that we were excited to attend.

The attendees were as enthusiastic as we were to be at the show for three days of schmoozing, catching up and discovering what’s new in the sawmill and lumber industries. With over 800 exhibitors coupled with two stimulating conferences, this show had something for everyone in the timber industry.

We were happy to reunite with old friends, connect with new faces and form new partnerships, in real time. Moreover, it was energizing to be in a big room filled with people having conversations and sharing memories.

Team Brunette Comments

Our sales team had plenty of good things to say about this year’s event. A few of their comments were:

“This show was an eye opener for me, it was interesting and informative to see the competition up close and personal as well as having a chance to view equipment upstream and downstream from ours in a mill site.”

“My personal view on the show was excellent, great to be in front of customers once again.”

“No question, people were enjoying the meet and greet part of the trade shows, opportunities to shake hands and renew past friendships all were very visible.”

“It was exciting to see people out and about, milling around asking questions, shaking hands, just like old times!”

“It was a good experience with a great BMC team!”

Team Brunette had busy, exhaustive three days at the show, but overall had a great time at TP&EE 2022! We are already planning for the 2024 show!

Thank you!

Many thanks to our hard-working friendly sales team. [Pictured in the black shirts] Sonia Marchesini, Patrick Browne, Ryan Coates, Colleen Koustas, and Glenn Clarke.

Thank you to all of you who stopped by to say hello and talk shop with the team. Thank you as well, Hatton-Brown Expositions, an affiliate of Timber Processing magazine, for hosting this successful and well-organized event!

Cheers to Fifty Years!

Friday, September 23rd, 2022

On Saturday, September 17th, Brunette Machinery said “Cheers to fifty years!” in celebration of Larry Walsh’s 50-year work anniversary!

A collage of photos for a 50th work anniversary

Larry Walsh, our superhero service technician, started work with Brunette Machine Works (now Brunette Machinery) as a machinist apprentice in 1972 when he was eighteen years old. Larry earned his machinist ticket, and moved into the fitting department. There he worked fitting and assembling metal parts for debarkers, bandmills, screens, chippers, the auto chip edger, and other equipment for sawmill and veneer plywood applications.

Later, when Brunette Machinery moved its head office to Surrey, Larry continued to work in the new shop but soon decided to retire. Well, he thought he decided to retire, but it didn’t take much to convince him to stay with the company as Brunette’s principal service technician.

Larry is known as our superhero service tech, not only for his expertise with every Brunette machine, but also for his willingness to go where he is needed and his knack for figuring out exactly what needs to be done. Those who have worked with Larry respect his knowledge and his strong work ethic. He is well known for his feisty personality and his no-nonsense approach to doing the job right.

To commemorate Larry’s outstanding milestone, Brunette held an anniversary party at the Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver. There was food, music and of course, cake! Team Brunette had a blast betting on the horses — and everyone had a bit of luck! At least there weren’t any tears or fist clenching after the last stretch!

Kirk, presented Larry with a Canucks jersey emblazoned with the number 50, a blue Brunette superhero cape — which he immediately put on — and a framed collage of “Larry” photos that we had all signed.

The rest of the afternoon was spent chatting and reminiscing about the “good old days” (when Larry had hair!)

It was a spectacular day. The weather was fantastic and the food was delicious. There was a lot of laughter and much excitement as we cheered on our favourites to win!

Thank you, Larry, for your fantastic work and contribution to Brunette! Congratulations on your amazing achievement! Cheers to fifty years!

The Race is On

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

The excitement is building in Prince George, BC for the PGARA’s long weekend demolition race.  On Saturday and Sunday, Sept 3 & 4, the Prince George Auto Racing Association (PGARA) Speedway Park will be hosting their popular Hit to Pass event. For those who don’t know what a Hit to Pass race is, well, it’s exactly like it sounds. You race your car around the track as fast as you can — only to move ahead of another car, you must hit it in order to pass it. The last car running is the winner!

Speedway Park’s 37-year-old track was repaved this past June and drivers are keen to rev up their motors. One of those drivers is our own Chad from Brunette Prince George.

Starting work on the racing trucks
Practice run — they’re ready!

Chad had planned to enter the annual demolition race last year, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. But, this year, the race is on! Chad and his team spent many hours refurbishing their trucks to the Association’s specifications. They are built for speed and ready to go!

Come cheer on the team at the PGARA Speedway Park’s Hit to Pass Mayhem this weekend. It’s sure to be a “smashing” good time! Check out their interview on CKPG Today. Click the image below to view the TV spot.
